Being an Independent Contractor

As an Independent Contractor, you are operating your own small business. This entitles you to many tax deductions, and you are also responsible for paying your own taxes to the IRS. You will receive a 1099 form from us at the beginning of the year.

It is a good idea to set aside a certain percentage of each check for the payment of taxes. Consult a tax professional for the exact amount for your situation.

There are many expenditures that you may incur while working at home on your own, which, if kept track of properly, can mean tax write-offs for you. These may include but are not limited to the supplies that you use, the purchase or rental of equipment (telephone, headset, etc.), portions of your rent, portions of monthly utility bills such as internet and telephone service, etc.

If you are new to working as an independent contractor, it is a good idea to consult with an experienced tax preparer or an accountant. Educate yourself about how much you should set aside to pay your taxes, and find out how to take advantage of all the deductions and write-offs available to you!
